Take the Road Less Travelled

Yamagata Prefecture is located in the northern part of Japan. It is about 3 hours by Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo. On the left, we have the Japan Sea that provides us with lots of seafood and warm moisture. On our right, we are endowed with 3 famous mountains and the famous Zao mountain range.

Yamagata has 4 distinct seasons, so whichever season you choose to come, you get to enjoy the beautiful nature and to taste the seasonal produces. Yamagata is synonymous with Onsens. Dip into an outdoor pool while enjoying the scenic nature. In spring, there is the Sakura. In summer, there is the greenery. In autumn, there is the red & yellow autumn leaves. In winter, there is the snow. Yamagata is also famous for its fruits - strawberries, peaches, cherries, apples, watermelons, persimmons to name just a few.

So, take the road less travelled! The next time you make your travel plans, think "Yamagata".
Here are photos to wet your appetite!

Zao, Okama

Located in between Miyagi Prefecture and Yamagata Prefecture, on top of the Zao mountain ranges, is the famous crater lake - Okama. Still an active volcano, the crater lake is 1,080m long and 330m wide. It is 25m deep with emerald green water and on a beautiful clear day, you get this picture-perfect photo. However, the lake is often enveloped in mist and fog, so getting a good view depends a lot on your luck!
